None of this autumn’s big Madrid musicals is performed in English, and that decides the choice for most visitors before price does. Los Miserables at the Teatro Apolo, Querido Evan Hansen at the Rialto and La Familia Addams at the Calderón say they are performed entirely in Spanish, and El Rey León sings its songs in Spanish at the Teatro Lope de Vega. The exception is We Will Rock You, with Spanish dialogue and Queen’s songs in English, according to esMadrid. Midweek seats start around €27. SIX, Wicked and Querido Evan Hansen have announced closing nights in November, while El Rey León has no closing date at all.
Are there musicals in English in Madrid? Not this season. Los Miserables, Querido Evan Hansen and La Familia Addams state they are performed entirely in Spanish, and no producer lists English surtitles. We Will Rock You is the partial exception, with Queen’s songs in English, and El Rey León is the most visual, with over 300 masks and puppets and seats from €27 midweek.
How much Spanish each show asks of you
The useful question is how much the story depends on the words, and what each producer states about language.
- If you speak no Spanish at all → We Will Rock You at the Gran Teatro CaixaBank Príncipe Pío, Friday to Sunday with dates on sale to 13 December, from €28.50, or SIX, 80 minutes in a pop-concert format at the Teatro Gran Vía, whose closing night is 8 November. Grupo Smedia, which runs SIX’s theatre, does not state the language on its page.
- If you know the story → El Rey León, in its 16th Madrid season, where the staging by Stage Entertainment relies on over 300 masks and puppets, or Los Miserables, a Cameron Mackintosh production brought by ATG Entertainment.
- If you want the words to matter → Querido Evan Hansen, a drama recommended from 13, and La Familia Addams, a comedy from 12 that warns of smoke and strobe lighting.

Older guides still promote Malinche, Nacho Cano’s show, as the first musical performed entirely in English in Madrid. Its own website places it in Mexico City until 30 January 2027, so it is not on during a Madrid trip this season.
Tickets, prices and the cheapest nights
Every producer quotes prices with VAT and booking fees included, and the same seat can cost double at the weekend.

Midweek is the cheap option. Stage prices El Rey León’s rear circle at €27 on weekdays and €54 at weekends. ATG charges €39.90 for the back of the circle at Los Miserables for Tuesday to Friday early-evening shows and €54.90 on Saturday. Wicked has a €27 under-27 fare, limited to 30 stalls seats per show, never on Sundays and two per ID, and a Sunday pack of four stalls seats for €149. Offers such as a €40 second ticket are promotions with a closing date, not the ticket price.
Booking comes down to three steps:
- Fix the date first. Three shows close in November. A date on sale is not a closing night, and Stage keeps adding El Rey León dates.
- Pick a weekday. The same seat costs up to double on Saturday.
- Buy from the producer or the box office. That is where the published price applies.
Buy from the producer’s own site or the box office. ATG warns that Viagogo, Stubhub and Ticketbis are not official sellers for Los Miserables, and Stage only lets you move your date for free up to 6pm the day before if you bought on its own site.
Getting there and back on show night
Four of the theatres line the Gran Vía within 300 m of a Metro entrance, three sit south of Puerta del Sol, and We Will Rock You plays at Príncipe Pío, which is also a Cercanías station. The Lope de Vega, home of El Rey León, has no lift, and only its stalls are step-free, according to Stage.
Evening curtains go up between 7pm and 9pm, so the longer shows let out after 10:30pm, well before the Metro closes at 1:30am, as explained in Madrid Metro closing time and night buses.
Dinner is the part that surprises visitors. Madrid dines from 9pm to 10:30pm and most kitchens do not open for dinner before 8pm, so eating before a 7pm or 8pm curtain means a late lunch or tapas, as covered in where to have dinner in Madrid. Tipping afterwards is optional, since no venue may add it by default, per tipping in Madrid.
