Outside those four months the five places still exist as landscape, but no sampling is scheduled. A pool on the Lozoya in October is not a closed bathing area; it is a stretch of river with no active health monitoring.

Why a clean 2025 did not lift the Alberche rating
Every sample taken at Playa del Alberche during the 2025 season came back as water suitable for bathing. The published rating still reads insufficient, and the reason is arithmetic rather than contamination.
The rating that the Comunidad publishes is computed from the current season and the three before it. One sample in 2024 and another in 2023 exceeded the microbiological limits, and both remain inside that four-season window. Until they drop out of it, they hold the annual figure down however clean the present summer is.
There is a response already in place: the service has increased the number of scheduled samples at that spot for the 2026 season. More samples produce a more representative average once the 2023 and 2024 breaches leave the window.
The five spots, and what each is rated
There are only five, spread across three different bodies of water and three corners of the region:
- El Muro, San Juan reservoir, San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Rated excellent.
- Virgen de la Nueva, San Juan reservoir, San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Rated excellent.
- Las Presillas, river Lozoya, Rascafría. Rated good.
- Los Villares, river Tajo, Estremera. Rated good.
- Playa del Alberche, river Alberche, Aldea del Fresno. Rated insufficient.
Two of the five share a reservoir and a municipality, which makes San Martín de Valdeiglesias the only place in the region with two top-rated bathing areas. Las Presillas sits in the mountains to the north, in the Lozoya valley; Los Villares is at the opposite end, on the Tajo in the southeast; Aldea del Fresno lies southwest, on the Alberche.
None of the five is a sea beach. These are river pools and reservoir shores with variable depth, currents and a natural bed.

Where swimming is banned, and how to reach the five that are not
Swimming is banned along the whole course of the river Manzanares, and specifically at La Charca Verde since 2016, on environmental protection grounds. It is a prohibition with a date attached, not a recommendation, and it covers the one river that actually runs through the city.
For the other unlisted spots the reasons given are physical before they are sanitary: rocks in the channel, sudden changes in depth and currents. Outside the five censused points, no sample is taken and no supervision applies.
